What it shows

Toby Crabel described the NR7: a bar whose range, high minus low, is the smallest of the last seven bars. It marks a day of unusually small movement.

It is a measure of calm in a single bar. It does not say what the next bar will do.

How we find it

The same code that draws it on your chart follows these steps, with the same result every time.

  1. For each bar, compute the range = high − low.
  2. Compare with the ranges of the previous 6 bars.
  3. Mark the bar if its range is the smallest of the 7.
  4. Show the date.

Starting values: Window 7 bars; Range high − low. These are proposed and will be tuned on real price data before launch.

How to read it

  • The gold zone marks the narrowest bar.
  • Its range is smaller than the six bars before it.
  • Bars after it are not part of the rule.
