What it shows

Stephen Klinger's oscillator assigns each bar a volume force, which is positive when the typical price rises and negative when it falls, scaled by the bar's range. It subtracts a 55-bar EMA of this force from a 34-bar EMA.

It is built to follow the long-term flow of volume while still reacting to short-term changes.

How we find it

The same code that draws it on your chart follows these steps, with the same result every time.

  1. Trend = +1 if typical price rose, −1 if it fell.
  2. Volume force = volume × trend × a range factor.
  3. KVO = EMA(34) of force − EMA(55) of force.
  4. Signal = EMA(13) of KVO.

Starting values: Fast 34; Slow 55; Signal 13. These are proposed and will be tuned on real price data before launch.

How to read it
