Gap fill
Price returns and trades through the whole empty space of an earlier gap.
Gaps and breakoutsBest on 3M, 6M, 1YAlso called filled gap
What it shows
A gap is filled when later bars trade through the whole space between the previous close and the gap's open. For a gap up, price falls back to the earlier day's high.
We show how long gaps stay open in the stock's own history.
How we find it
The same code that draws it on your chart follows these steps, with the same result every time.
- Find a gap, as defined for gap levels.
- Track each later bar.
- Mark filled when a bar's range covers the whole gap.
- Show bars until fill.
Starting values: Gap ≥ 1%. These are proposed and will be tuned on real price data before launch.
How to read it
- The gold zone is the gap.
- Price later returns into it.
- The gap is closed at the gold dot.
